The Tigers have certainly deserved their Christmas fuddle after a terrific start to the new season

Hull City’s players were told to enjoy their weekend off by boss Sergej Jakirovic, and it certainly looked like they were doing just that across the Irish Sea in Dublin.

Members of Jakirovic’s squad flew to Dublin straight after their stunning 3-1 success at The Den to celebrate Christmas ahead of the busy Championship schedule.

Fifteen members of the Tigers squad, including John Egan, Lewie Coyle, James Furlong and Matt Crooks, were all dressed as superheroes and posed for pictures outside one of the Irish capital’s famous hostelries, the Boar’s Head.

City‘s squad have enjoyed a terrific season so far, with Saturday’s 3-1 triumph at third-placed Millwall coming on the back of a 2-1 win away at Stoke City in their previous away outing, with the Potters sitting second ahead of that clash.

“It’s a great three points, and the boys deserve to celebrate over the next two days,” Jakirovic said before his players jetted off from the capital across the Irish Sea.

After a home humbling by Middlesbrough, Jakirovic’s men have won their last two games in the Championship and will begin preparations for Saturday’s visit of West Brom when they return to training on Tuesday after being given time off by the Croatian.

Building a strong team spirit has been a fundamental part of Jakirovic’s approach this season, and their pre-Christmas trip to Dublin was pivotal to keeping spirits up ahead of a busy festive period.

After the game against Albion, the Tigers go to Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day, then Middlesbrough a couple of days later, before hosting Stoke City in the first game of 2026 at the MKM Stadium. Watford are then next up in East Yorkshire before Championship football takes a break for the FA Cup third round, with the Tigers hosting Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.
