The Tigers will hope to enjoy some FA Cup magic next month

Hull City’s home meeting with Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers in the third round of the FA Cup will take place on Sunday, January 11.

The two second-tier clubs will kick off at the MKM Stadium at 2:30pm after the game was selected for television broadcast by Discovery Plus.

Their FA Cup showdown with Rovers, being played on the Sunday rather than the traditional Saturday, gives City an extra day’s rest following a busy festive period, which ends with a home meeting against Watford on Thursday, January 4.

“So Blackburn at home, they beat us already here 3-0, Jakirovic told Hull Live when asked about the draw. “They killed us here. We will try to beat them. We had a bad day in the office because we had a virus in the dressing room before the game, so we will see this time.”

From the meeting with Rovers, City will then resume their Championship campaign away on the South Coast at Southampton on January 17.

City haven’t won an FA Cup game at this stage of the competition since getting to the fourth round in the 2019/20 campaign when they were knocked out by Chelsea, and have gone out at the third round stage in each of the last four seasons. They exited in the second round of the season before that, when they were in League One.

Should the Tigers see off a Rovers side that won 3-0 at the MKM Stadium back in August, their meeting with play-off rivals Ipswich Town on Valentine’s Day (February 14) would be postponed and likely moved to a midweek fixture later in the season.
