The Tigers have hit by another major setback to one of their influential players
Hull City have been rocked by the news that in-form striker Joe Gelhardt will be sidelined for at least the next month.
Gelhardt, who scored his eighth goal in 10 games to reach 10 for the season against Middlesbrough last Friday night, suffered a calf problem in the second period and was forced off.
Scans have revealed that the 23-year-old is expected to miss around six weeks of action, in what is another hammer blow to City and boss Sergej Jakirovic.
The forward missed Wednesday night’s game with Wrexham at the MKM Stadium, and will certainly sit out the busy Christmas period, with him not likely back until early in the New Year.
News of Gelhardt’s setback comes at a time when the Tigers could at least call upon Liam Millar and Oli McBurnie, but they remain without influential midfielder John Lundstram, who has a knee problem.
Kasey Palmer and Eliot Matazo also remain out with longer-term knee injuries, with Jakirovic’s tenure continuing to be blighted by serious injuries to key players.
Both McBurnie and Lundstram have missed chunks of the season with calf injuries of their own, and Gelhardt is the latest to fall victim, having been recently joined by Brandon Williams.
