Hull City returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Wrexham

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic hailed his side’s complete performance against Wrexham and then sent the message that the Tigers will get better as they marked their return to the top six.

With 20 matches of an increasingly competitive Championship season now gone the Tigers find themselves in a play-off position after a return to winning ways. After the shock and disappointment of being so easily swept aside last time out at home to Middlesbrough, City showcased their true selves with an imprtessive all-round display as they ended Wrexham’s nine match unbeaten run with ease to finish 2-0 winners.

A first-half strike for Kyle Joseph set the Tigers on their way as the hosts controlled the game. A second should have come to accompany City’s dominance and it took an Ivor Pandur penalty save to maintain the advantage until Oli McBurnie returned off the bench to cap an impressive team performance.

The victory after successive home defeats was a welcome one, as was a clean sheet for a team with the second-worst defensive record in the league, but it was the nature of the performance that pleased the manager most of all.

Asked if it was the most complete performance of his time in charge, he said: “I think it is, yes.

“But in my opinion we can play even better, especially in possession. In this game we control almost everything, except for the moment Kieffer Moore missed his chance and second half the penalty. That’s a key moment because at 1-1 it is a completely different game.

“We beat a team who didn’t lose for nine games, which is a big achievement. This league is very difficult. I am very pleased with the clean sheet, we were dying for a clean sheet.”
