There’s a rule Tesco shoppers may not know about

Tesco has cut the cost of Christmas staple Baileys in the run-up to the festive season, though there’s a restriction that customers might not realise exists. The UK supermarket revealed last month that it was reducing the price of its 1L bottles of the popular Irish cream liqueur to £10, exclusively for those holding a Tesco Clubcard.

This deal runs until Monday, December 8, with the standard price sitting at approximately £22. However, Tesco seems to be controlling its stock levels, and customers should note there’s a cap on how many bottles they’re permitted to buy.

According to Tesco’s website, shoppers are restricted to purchasing just three 1L bottles of Baileys maximum. This practice isn’t unusual, as the retail giant frequently enforces a “maximum purchase quantity” on sought-after products.

Tesco’s website states: “To ensure availability of all our products customers may be limited to a maximum number of items.” For instance, Tesco currently restricts purchases of its Tesco Finest Prosecco Doc 75Cl to 36 bottles, whilst those looking to buy the Tesco Frozen Medium Basted Whole Turkey Bird 3.9Kg – 5.2kg are limited to three per customer.

Maximum purchases differ by item, though numerous daily essentials are presently restricted to 16 per transaction. Tesco isn’t alone in offering 1L bottles of Baileys for £10, as Sainsbury’s customers with a Nectar card can also secure this festive treat at the same price, valid until Saturday, December 6.

Asda is also offering 1L bottles for £10 each until Monday, December 8, and Costco cardholders can purchase theirs for £9.99 until the same day, or while supplies last. It’s worth noting that Tesco stores in Scotland are selling the bottles for £11.50 until the offer ends.
