Ben WrigleyResidents have reacted angrily after a “ridiculous” person seemingly ignored signs and walked on a freshly repaired pavement, leaving a trail of unsightly footprints.
Earlier this week, contractors appointed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council laid the path beside Welton Road, Brough, with large red signs telling people to keep off.
Resident Mark Sutton told the BBC: “It’s ridiculous someone felt the need to walk over it rather than cross the road. They will probably be the sort who complains about the condition of the pavements.”
The council said its contractor would repair the damage.
By Friday morning, the tar had set, while the warning signs and tape had been taken down.
Patrick Wiltshire, who lives nearby, said: “There were signs up asking people to keep off the tar. It might have been someone having some daft fun – I’m not saying that’s right though.”
Writing on the Brough Rant and Moan Facebook page, Ben Wrigley told the culprit: “I hope you ruined some really expensive shoes in your quest to save yourself five seconds.”
Councillor Terry Gill said: “It’s unbelievable really. What more could we have done? The signs were clear. We’ve had a similar issue before.”
A council spokesperson said: “We are aware of the situation and we have raised this with the contractor carrying out these works.
“They will ensure this is repaired as soon as possible without causing delays to the current ongoing scheme.
“In the meantime, we would urge people to please abide by warning signs and keep off newly resurfaced paths and roads.”
