It won’t be fixed until later this month

The M62 Ouse Bridge was back down to one lane westbound today after damage to a joint was identified. The bridge between Howden and Goole, has been plagued with problems for years and faults with the joints were found in 2022.

Years of roadworks followed including lane upheavals where eastbound traffic was forced to travel along the westbound carriageway. And today, it is back down to one lane westbound following a fresh headache for National Highways engineers.

A bridge joint failed in June this year but this latest problem is an issue with damaged rubber bellows, which absorb the traffic vibration. This means the joint needs to be replaced.

Speaking about the latest westbound lane closure, a spokesperson for National Highways told Yorkshire Live: “We have identified damage to a bridge joint in lane one. As a precautionary measure, and to prevent further deterioration, this lane will be closed until the joint has been replaced. We apologise for the inconvenience to road users.

“While we are committed to carrying out this work at the earliest opportunity, it requires specialist engineering equipment which isn’t immediately available. The joint replacement will be completed on the weekend of December 13 and December 14.”
