Both clubs will have to submit their response to the governing body early next week

Stoke City and Hull City have both been charged for their part in a mass brawl after last Saturday’s Championship encounter at the bet365 Stadium, and it won’t please Potters boss Mark Robins.

Tempers flared after Joe Gelhardt bagged a 90th-minute winner to seal a terrific comeback from Sergej Jakirovic’s men after Semi Ajayi had headed City level early in the second half to cancel out Sorba Thomas’ thunderous opener.

The victory in the Potteries ended a run of two straight defeats for City who are now preparing to face Middlesbrough on Friday night, with Boro replacing Stoke in the top two last weekend.

Players and staff from both sides clashed after a fan tried to get onto the playing surface, before falling over and then being escorted away by stewards.

Mark Robins blamed City for their part in the incident, saying a member of Tigers staff helped reignite the incident before suggesting the Potters being charged would be ‘an absolute joke’.

“Stoke City FC and Hull City AFC have been charged following the mass confrontation at their EFL Championship match on Saturday, 29 November,” the FA wrote in a statement. “It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way after the final whistle. Stoke City FC and Hull City AFC have until Monday, 8 December to provide a response.”

City were fined £25,0000 earlier this week after an incident at Birmingham City back in October, when the Tigers were 3-2 winners at St Andrew’s, with the Blues given a £115,000 fine for their role in the ugly scenes just before Regan Slater’s thumping header.
