Everything you need to know about the Queen’s Gardens project – Hull Live

The £21 million project is set to be completed in early 2026

Key facts about the major regeneration project at Queen’s Gardens

  • Queen’s Gardens in Hull city centre has been undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment since 2022. The project, which is now expected to cost over £21 million, is set to be completed in Spring 2026, bringing some much-welcomed green space back to the city centre.
  • The gardens’ reopening has already begun after the Rose Bowl section partially reopened in July. The section, which sits on the western end of the gardens, across the road from the Maritime Museum, includes the Rose Bowl fountain which has come back into operation in recent weeks.
  • The refurbishment of the third and final pond in the gardens was recently completed. The pond at the Hull College end of the gardens has now been refurbished revealing a blue mosaic that had been unseen for years. Between the three ponds in the gardens, more than 600 tonnes of silt has been removed during the refurbishments.
  • The project has been funded by capital funding which is money that must be spent on long term projects and assets such as the Queen’s Gardens refurbishment, rather than day to day services such as bin collections or social care.
  • Queen’s Gardens sits at the heart of the council’s wider Hull Maritime project that is ongoing in various parts of the city. The gardens act as a link between two other key Maritime projects that are currently ongoing in the city centre. The gardens link Hull’s Maritime Museum, which is set to reopen in Summer 2026.
