Decisions are set to be made on two major residential developments in Hull city centre. Hull City Council’s planning committee will today (December 3) discuss plans for a 109-bed HMO in the former Portland Hotel as well as plans to convert the former Debenhams building into 178 apartments.

Plans for the 109-bed HMO have been controversial with the local ward councillors and Emma Hardy MP, whose constituency includes much of the city centre. Plans were initially submitted for 122 beds, but this was later reduced to 109.

The committee will also make a decision on plans for the former Debenhams building. The massive 180,000 sq ft site which spans from Ferensway to Prospect Street has been empty since the store closed in 2021. Plans could see the building becoming 178 apartments with a number of retail units on the ground floor.

We will be posting live updates throughout the planning meeting.
