The former Tigers attacker has been linked with a move to other clubs in the Championship next month
Sheffield United chief Chris Wilder refused to be drawn on whether or not Louie Barry would see his loan spell at Bramall Lane cut short next month.
Barry, who was on the cusp of re-joining Hull City in the summer in a deal worth £3.5m before the Tigers were hit with a punishment by the EFL for breaching transfer rules, linked up with ex-Tigers boss Ruben Selles in South Yorkshire back in the summer.
Since arriving in the Steel City, Barry has not had a good time of it, struggling to make an impact either under Selles, or since Wilder replaced the Spaniard in September having been limited to just six starts among nine outings. His last appearance came in the 3-2 defeat at Preston North End in late October, over a month ago.
Barry initially joined City on loan in January before suffering a knee injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the season, and the 22-year-old has suffered another knee problem, which has seen him return to Bodymoor Heath for treatment on a cyst as he continues to struggle to reignite his career after a terrific spell at Stockport County early last term.
A host of clubs have since been linked with a move for Barry next month, including the Tigers and Stoke City, though Hull Live understands there is no truth to links with a move for the ex-Tigers’ loanee.
“It’s been a difficult loan for Louie but he’s got an injury at the moment so Villa as the parent club are looking at that,” Wilder said of Barry’s time with the Blades.
“At the start he played games and he was the previous manager’s signing. His attitude has been spot on, he’s a good kid to work with. He’s not played a lot of football while I’ve been here with the change-up really with Callum (O’Hare) playing off that left and Gus (Hamer) playing off that left until he was injured and coming back into it now and then Brooksy playing there (normally on the right).
“We’re assessing all the loans. I’m not going to make an unbelievable, controversial statement but there will be players that are on loan here that will go back to their parent clubs.
“We’re assessing that, but at the moment, Louie is here until the first of January. He’s injured at the moment, he’s back at Villa and we’ll just see how that progresses over the next couple of weeks.”
