The applications also include the expansions of a Yorkshire Water treatment plant
Plans to modernise an East Yorkshire pig breeding site are among those currently under consideration by East Riding Council. The farm, West of Driffield, houses thousands of pigs and is looking to replace its “outdated” buildings.
Submitted applications also include plans to expand a water treatment works. Yorkshire Water are seeking to build a new plant to reduce nitrates levels in water.
Pig breeding farm
The council has received an application for alterations to be made to Haywold Farm, near Huggate. Plans explain the farm houses around 1,700 breeding sows and 6,500 piglets.
The submitted application seeks to “modernise” the farm by demolishing five “outdated” live-stock buildings which are to be replaced with a single structure which would provide 432 free farrowing places for breeding sows. The plans do not involve any increase in the size of the herd on site.
The new building would measure 112.2 metres by 33.6 metres and would stand around 5.25 metres tall. It would be located in the South-East corner of the farm, plan say.
Expansion of water treatment works
The council has also received plans from Yorkshire Water for the Haisthorpe Water Treatment Works to be expanded. The water provider is looking for permission to built a ‘Nitrate Removal Plant’ on the land next to the existing site.
According to plans submitted to the council, the Water Treatment Works feeds a standalone distribution system of around 24,000 properties. However, it is explained, “Yorkshire Water’s monitoring of ground water quality over the last decade has shown a rising trend in nitrate levels which are starting to impact the blending ability of the site to achieve a sustainable volume of water for the region’s demand.”
A 7.2 metre tall ‘Nitrate Removal Plant’ has been chosen as a solution to the issue. Yorkshire Water seeks to build the plant an the land directly West of the existing facility.
Solar panels on an East Riding school
Finally, an application has also been submitted to the council for solar panels to be placed on Withernsea High School. The panels would be installed on various flat roofed buildings across the school’s 13 hectare site.
The application states 656 panels would be installed on the school. The panels would generate around 300kWp according to plans.
