Hull City Council’s Christmas jumper donation drive returns
It’s the season for giving and Hull City Council is once again appealing for residents to donate unwanted children’s Christmas jumpers, to support local families and reduce textile waste. As the festive season approaches, the council is encouraging people to spread some cheer by donating unwanted children’s Christmas sweaters.
For many families, Christmas is an added financial pressure, and this jumper collection is designed to help ensure all children can take part in the festive celebrations. All jumpers donated will be sorted and distributed just in time for Save The Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, on Thursday, December 11.
This is when people up and down the country come together and donate £2 to “make the world better with a sweater”. Donation drop-off points for Christmas jumpers include:
- The Wilson Centre, Alfred Gelder Street
- The Orchard Centre, Orchard Park Road
- Any Beercocks estate agents in Hull and the East Riding – to find your closest branch, visit www.beercocks.com
- Alternatively, the council’s Love Your Street team can collect the jumpers if you are unable to take them to a drop-off point.
The deadline for donations is Wednesday, December 3. Councillor Charles Quinn, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, said: “Over the past few years, we’ve collected hundreds of Christmas jumpers and delivered them to local schools.

“This year, we’re aiming for our biggest collection yet. We understand that Christmas can be a challenging time for families, financially, and we hope this drive helps ease that burden.
“It’s a simple way for families to support others. Just check your children’s wardrobes and donate any festive jumpers they’ve outgrown.
“Let’s make sure every child can join in the fun on Christmas Jumper Day. Thank you, in advance, to everyone who chooses to donate this year.”
However, textile recycling isn’t just at Christmas, it is a year-round activity. There are lots of opportunities in Hull to recycle textiles, such as through the council’s textile points – which are located across the city – or donating to local charity shops.
