City fell to a familar Pride Park defeat in the Pride Park rain on Tuesday evening

Derby County boss John Eustace was delighted with Derby County’s first-half performance in their 2-1 win over Hull City on Tuesday night, but was complimentary about the Tigers.

The Rams led 1-0 at the break courtesy of Carlton Morris’ fourth goal in two games, but City responded early in the second period when Joel Ndala turned in Regan Slater’s cross.

City looked to be getting stronger and was more likely to find a winner in the closing stages, before Ivor Pandur’s error gifted substitute Lars-Jorgen Salvesen the chance to fire into an empty net, which he gleefully took, and the Tigers’ six-game unbeaten run came to an end in the East Midlands.

“I thought the first half we were excellent, really dominated them and didn’t really feel under any threat,” Eustace said. “Then, in the second half, I felt we just lost our way a little bit.

“I think in the second half, the conditions probably helped Hull (City) as well. They played some fantastic stuff in the second half as well, so I think both teams played some good football at times.

“We had a really difficult game on Saturday, and the lads looked a bit leggy in that second half, but we found a way to win, and again it’s about the squad, the players we brought on gave us a little bit of life and energy.

“We’ve got a fantastic group of players, it’s our family. We’ve had some difficult moments together but we find a way to win. We reflect, we demand from each other and we criticise each other but it stays in house.

“During a long Championship season there are going to be highs and lows but this group are relentless, which is something that we really push behind the scenes at the training ground and in team meetings.”
