The Tigers’ assistant boss is a man in demand
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed the club turned down an approach from Kayserispor for assistant head coach Marko Salatovic.
The Turkish Super Lig side, who lost Jakirovic to City back in the summer when he left to become boss at the MKM Stadium, were without a manager after the Croatian’s replacement, Markus Gisdol, lost his job with the side second bottom of the table and without a win this season.
After attempting to prise the Croatian away from City, Kayseri have since appointed former Montenegro international Radomir Đalović to the role.
Salatovic, who shares assistant manager duties with Dean Holden under Jakirovic, was approached to become their new head coach at the Kadir Has Stadium, but the request was quickly rebuffed.
Jakirovic says he would never block the ambition of any member of his coaching staff, should they want to further their career, especially in becoming a number one. That said, City’s boss says Salatovic will remain at the MKM Stadium and be a key part of his coaching staff
“We have a connection with Marco, but they (City’s squad) know Marco knows everything already, how I’m thinking, so he’s a good coach as well. One time when I am the sporting director, he will be my coach,” he told Hull Live.
“Yes, it’s true, from Kayseri,” confirmed the Tigers boss. “They called him, the sporting director (Muhammed Türkmen) called him. He was sick one day (when the call came),” Jakirovic joked.
“No, he will be with me. He’s my man. Or if he chooses to go, I will support him. I don’t have a problem with this. This is your ambition. It must be like this that you have ambition, but right now, he’s very comfortable with me here.”
