Supporters are heading to the capital for the big series opener at Wembley
England fans packed onto an early train service from Hull on Saturday morning as they headed to Wembley for the opening match of the Rugby League Ashes Series against Australia. The busy 08:35 Hull Trains service was filled with competition winners from the company’s ongoing partnership with Hull KR and Rugby League Commercial, who enjoyed a first-class experience on their journey to London King’s Cross.
Dubbed the ‘Ashes Train’, the service took plenty of local rugby league fans to the capital, eager to support the first clash between the rival nations in a three-test match series since 2003. Holidaymakers setting off for the start of the half-term holidays also used the London-bound service, ensuring a bustling start to the weekend.
Lou Mendham, service delivery director at Hull Trains, said: “It’s really exciting to have the Ashes back in the UK. We’re delighted to support our competition winners from our partnership with Hull KR and Rugby League Commercial, as well as all of the other local Rugby fans heading down and people setting off for half-term breaks. This is what Hull Trains is all about, connecting people and places.”
Joe Steel, director of marketing and communications at RL Commercial, added: “We’re really grateful to Hull Trains for their fantastic support around the Rugby League Ashes Test at Wembley. Making it easier for fans to travel and be part of this historic occasion helps us grow the game and create an unforgettable experience for everyone making their way to the capital.”
The game is set to get underway at 2.30pm.
