A pair of Hull KR old-boys have landed new coaching gigs Down Under.
Former Hull KR duo Adam Quinlan and Tyrone McCarthy have recently landed new coaching gigs in Australia,
Quinlan, 32, made 59 appearances for the Robins from 2017 to 2021, a part of the promotion-winning side from the Championship to earn a place back in Super League. He also previously represented St Helens and St George Illawarra Dragons, making his professional debut in 2013 in the NRL.
The former full-back, who retired at the end of 2021, has been appointed the new boss of Queanbeyan Roos, who compete in the Canberra Raiders Cup. He succeeds former Super League and NRL half-back Sam Williams, who recently took the reins at Queensland Cup side, Northern Pride.
“Please join us in congratulating and warmly welcoming our newly appointed 2026 first-grade coach – Adam Quinlan,” the club shared on social media.
“Adam needs no introduction. A former NRL player with over 100 first-grade appearances for St George Dragons, St Helens, and Hull Kingston Rovers.
“Adam brings the perfect blend of elite experience, leadership, and work ethic.”
Meanwhile, ex-Ireland, Warrington, Salford, Leigh and Hull KR forward McCarthy has been appointed boss of New South Wales Cup side Western Suburbs Magpies, Wests Tigers’ feeder club.
The 37-year-old, who won two Challenge Cup titles across his career, has previously held roles throughout the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Warrington Wolves development ranks.
“We’re pleased to have Tyrone on board and leading our NSW Cup program, he has a great understanding of this competition as both a player and coach and knows what it takes to be successful,” said Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson said.
“We believe he brings the right mix of experience across the coaching pathway and will be a great cultural fit for our wider coaching group. This is important as Tyrone will play an integral role in not only preparing individual players for a transition into the NRL, but ensuring the program is successful in its own right.”
