The Tigers ended their long wait for successive victories

Hull City secured their first away win of the season at Birmingham City with a pulsating 3-2 win in a dramatic St Andrew’s contest that had everything.

A frenetic first half saw City lead 2-1 at the break courtesy of a Jack Robinson own goal and a superb diving header from Regan Slater on the stroke of the break.

Jay Stansfield equalised for the home side after Ivor Pandur spilt a shot at his near post. Both sides were involved in a mass brawl with their respective benches after the hosts felt Kyle Joseph should have been penalised for a challenge. City played with more control in the second half and had an extra advantage when Jack Robinson was sent off for a second yellow card.

City looked to have killed it off in added time when Joe Gelhardt slammed in, but Jay Stansfield’s penalty threatened to spark a dramatic fightback, but City saw it out.

Here’s how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players at St Andrew’s on Saturday afternoon….

Ivor Pandur: Should really have done better with their goal which he spilled into the path of Stansfield. Made a couple of important saves in the second. 7/10

Ryan Giles: Had a tough first half up against Patrick Roberts. Rattled a shot wide in the second amid a good spell from City. Played his part in a crazy game. 8/10

Charlie Hughes: Important early challenge inside his box and that theme continued for much of the first half. Him and Egan had one hell of a job, but stood up to it. 8/10

John Egan: Did what he needed to do at times, though will feel he should have got closer to Stansfield for the equaliser. Battled really hard second. Booked for a foul he didn’t commit. 8/10

Lewie Coyle: Booked early on for a tug back on Demarai Gray. Will be unhappy with the equaliser but it was his cross that found Slater for the second. Hurt early in the second half and had to come off. 7/10

Regan Slater: A decent first half was capped by a stunning header in added time at the end of it by scoring a wonderful header. Terriric in the second half. What a display. 9/10

Amir Hadziahmetovic: Back in the team at the expense of the stricken John Lundstram. Some neat touches but still doesn’t dominate as much as he’d like to. 6/10

Kyle Joseph: Having missed the win over the Blades with illness, the forward returned to the flank. Started wide before going up front and was key in the opener. Should have had more in the second. 7/10

Joe Gelhardt: Involved in the opening goal but struggled that aside. Was booked for his part in the brawl before the break. Always a threat in the second half and got his goal. 8/10

David Akintola: Looked to have been fouled down the right but was booked for his reaction after not getting one. Did have a hand in the second goal, but offered little elsewhere. 5/10

Oli McBurnie: Played in Joseph for the opening goal with a clever pass and showed incredible battling qualities to get his side a corner. Ran his socks off without getting that chance. 7/10

Subs:

Matt Crooks (for Akintola 46): Collected a yellow card for a rash challenge in the middle of the park. Should have gone off but the referee booked Egan. Was crucial in what work he did. 7/10

Cody Drameh (for Coyle 49): Could have scored against his former club when he chopped inside but went for the pass. Crashed off the bar late on. 7/10

Liam Millar (for McBurnie 70): Saw a volley just about kept out by James Beadle at the near post. Had chances, was a threat on the break and carved out the third. 7/10

Darko Gyabi (for Amir 70): Broke up play well when he needed to, and provided valuable legs as the game became stretched. 7/10

Enis Destan (for Joseph 78): Could have put himself about a little bit more in the closing stages. 6/10
