Bush to face more than 60 charges
Robert Bush will appear at Hull Crown Court again today, two months after the case was adjourned due to the defence not being ‘in a position to proceed’.
It comes more than 19 months after a “complex, protracted and highly sensitive ten-month investigation” was launched into concerns regarding the care of the deceased at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors.
Ahead of Bush being charged in April, more than 13,000 exhibits were submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, police confirmed in January. Ashes and 35 bodies were removed from Legacy’s Hessle Road premises during the investigation. In July 2024, officers confirmed they had identified 163 families linked to the ashes.
Of the 65 charges, 1 to 30 relate to the prevention of lawful and decent burial, while charges 31 to 60 relate to fraud by false representation concerning the proper care of remains, cremation and the return of ashes.
Charge 61 relates to fraudulent trading concerning funeral plans, charge 62 relates to fraud by false representation, counts 63 and 64 relate to fraud by false representation and count 65 relates to the theft of money said to have been stolen from 12 charities.
