“The grading is a fantastic reflection of the commitment and dedication of our brilliant team”

A small nursery in Hull has been hailed as “outstanding” by Ofsted inspectors. Parkstone Pre-School was described as a place where children are “extremely happy and demonstrate high levels of self-esteem”.

The pack-away pre-school is based at Riverside Community Centre in Parkstone Road, north Hull. Ofsted published the report on Monday, September 29.

“Staff act as positive role models and consistently model the behaviours they expect, such as using polite language like ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when interacting with children,” said the inspector. “They provide gentle guidance and clear, consistent reminders, helping children understand routines and expectations.”

The provision for children with special educational needs or disabilities was described as “exceptional”. The inspector noted that staff “demonstrate a deep commitment to inclusion and work tirelessly with parents, external professionals and other settings to ensure that children’s needs are swiftly identified and met”.

It added: “Referrals are made without delay, and meticulously tailored support plans are implemented with precision. Children with SEND make rapid and sustained progress, thriving alongside their peers and fully accessing the curriculum.”

The report said staff nurtured “confident and independent” children. They were said to enjoy making decisions and playing an active part in their learning.

“They take pride in doing things for themselves,” it said. “For example, younger children peel their own fruit at snack time with confidence, while older children assess risks skilfully as they balance on planks and beams.”

Julie Gregory, Pre-School Manager, said: ”We are absolutely delighted to have received an ‘Outstanding’ grading from Ofsted, for the first time. We are a small pack-away setting of six staff and work extremely hard to provide the best care we can for our children and families.

“The grading is a fantastic reflection of the commitment and dedication of our brilliant team. We have all worked together for many years and are really proud of what we have achieved during this time.

“We could not have done this without the support of our amazing parents/carers, both past and present. As we are a small setting we are able to get to know our families on a more personal level, which in turn creates a more positive environment for our wonderful children.”

Parents praised Parkstone Pre-School when the news was shared on social media. “We would like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us and for all the lovely messages of congratulations”.
