A red flood warning has been issued for Hornsea tonight. Properties from Marine Drive, along South Promenade, Hornsea Burton Road and along Stream Dike and Foss Beck are affected.

The Government issued the warning, which says: “Flooding is expected between 5.45am 8am on Sunday 21/09/2025 due to high tides, strong winds and large waves. Areas most at risk of flooding include properties around the leisure centre, and behind South Promenade as far as Hornsea Burton Road, including Grainger Road and Pasture Road.

“We continue to monitor the situation closely and are closing the North and South promenade floodgates. Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as the waves, and sea spray could be dangerous. This message will be updated by 5am on Sunday 21/09/2025, or as the situation changes.”

Advice for residents when a red flood warning is issued is as follows:

  • protect yourself and your loved ones
  • move your loved ones, pets and valuables to a safe place
  • move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building
  • turn off the gas, electricity and water in your home if it’s safe
  • put flood protection equipment in place
  • do as the emergency services tell you
  • help others if it’s safe to do so
