Lane played his final game for Hull on Thursday.
John Cartwright has paid a classy tribute to Jordan Lane after the back rower played his 163rd and final Hull FC game against Catalans Dragons on Thursday night.
Lane was understandably emotional after full-time, with the curtain coming down on his Black and Whites career. The Hull-born back rower has been at the club for over a decade, rising through the youth system and debuting in the first team in 2018.
The 27-year-old has been a mainstay since then but will move on to a new challenge in 2026, signing for Castleford Tigers on a big four-year deal, with Cartwright wishing him the best for his future.
Speaking post match, the head coach said: “I didn’t know much about Jordan Lane before I got here. Unfortunately, he’s been out injured for a long period of time, but he’s a real pro. He’s really reliable, he can play in multiple positions, he’s tough, and he’s a good team man.”
Hull did hold a desire to keep Lane next year but were unable to match Castleford’s offer. On that reality, Cartwright continued: “I really wish he could have finished his career here, but for him and his family, he decided that he needed a challenge to further his footy career. Everyone here at the club is 100% behind him and we wish him all the very best.”
Elsewhere, Will Gardiner also played his final game for the club on Thursday. The Hull-born prop forward made 32 appearances for Hull after debuting in 2022 and was one of eight confirmed player exits earlier this week.
Jordan Rapana, who was serving the second game of his suspension, also bid farewell to the Hull FC fans prior to the clash, taking a lap of honour around the pitch alongside his children. The Kiwi played 23 times for the club this year, drawing the curtain on a superb professional playing career.
