Hull KR take on Warrington Wolves in the final round of the regular Super League season.
Willie Peters is hoping his Hull KR side can carry strong momentum into the Super League semi-finals, opting to field a full-strength team against Warrington Wolves in the final round of the regular season.
Had the Robins beaten Wakefield Trinity in the penultimate round, Peters might have chosen to rest key players such as Elliot Minchella, Peta Hiku, and Tom Davies – all of whom have logged heavy minutes across a packed schedule, including the club’s Challenge Cup triumph.
However, defeat at the DIY Kitchens Stadium has forced Peters to reconsider, ultimately choosing to name a strong squad to close out the regular season on a high – drawing on lessons learned from their cup success earlier this year.
A win against Sam Burgess’ side on Thursday would secure Hull KR ’s first League Leaders’ Shield of the Super League era, completing phase two of a potential historic treble in front of a home crowd at Sewell Group Craven Park.
“It certainly made you think, with certain things going on,” Peters said.
“But we’ll be going with a strong team – we’re taking a similar approach with what we did in the Challenge Cup. I’ve learned a lot from that, and I think you need to have momentum going in and we want to put in a performance that we’re proud of, and go into the semi-finals with momentum.
“We’ve got the opportunity this week to go and show that we’ve been the most consistent team throughout the season, and it’s a great opportunity.
“If we do go and do that, the numbers don’t lie – we have been the most consistent team. We’re putting things into perspective of what we’ve done overall throughout the season, and we’re certainly in a good spot.”
Peters also insists the window between their final regular-season fixture and the semi-final is more than enough to reset.
He added: “We’ve got 16 days before our next game after this week – that is more than enough to make sure that you have a fresh team going into the semi-finals, and then it’s a new ball game and it’s up to us from there.”
