A three month closure order has been granted against a vape shop in Hornsea. East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s trading standards service successfully secured the order against The Vape Shop on Cliff Road, Hornsea.

Beverley Magistrates’ Court granted the order on Thursday, August 20, under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. The closure order means the premises must remain shut for three months with any breach of the order potentially resulting in further legal action.

It follows an investigation by trading standards, which found ‘significant’ anti-social behaviour linked to the premises, the council said. Evidence presented to the court demonstrated that the business was involved in the ‘sale of illegal tobacco, cigarettes, and vapes, including the supply of these age-restricted products to children.’

The council said that shops which sell illegal products and supply vapes and cigarettes to children as young as 13 endanger young people. It also undermines legitimate businesses and causes nuisance to local communities.

Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection said “This is a significant result for our trading standards team and a clear message to others engaging in similar activities. We remain committed to taking firm action against any business found to be trading illegally, particularly those that put children at risk.”
