A group of girls from Hull have set their sights on helping a “life-changing” charity after receiving support themselves. They have formed a team as part of this year’s inspiring Lifestyle initiative, run by Humberside Police, and are focusing their efforts on behalf of Kids.
The charity provides vital play and social intervention sessions for children with disabilities, ensuring families have that little bit of respite and support from trained professionals. The girls – Macie, Ellie, Maria and Autumn – who are all aged 12 or 13, have called themselves No more Mehhs for Lifestyle, a scheme that supports young people in making a positive impact in their communities each summer.
Becky, who is Macie’s mum, said: “The girls are fundraising for the charity, Kids. This charity is a true lifesaver for some of the girls in the team, hence them choosing to support it.
“A number of the team have themselves had neurodiverse diagnoses, so they know first-hand just how much difference this support makes. Without the charity, they would struggle with even the basic skills that now allow them to take on this Lifestyle challenge with such courage and determination.
“They owe it to the charity to be able to thrive and explore the world and make that difference.” With a recent drop in funding for the charity, the girls felt it was their turn to give back.

Becky said: “They’ve been rallying incredible community spirit through car boot sales, teddy tombolas and are planning a big community fun day later this month. Their nearest and most exciting upcoming event is a Colour Run, a day filled with joy, energy, and togetherness.”
The sponsored Colour Run takes place on Friday, August 2, at 1pm, during a wider family fun event running from noon to 3pm. It takes place at Springhead and Derringham Community Hub, near Wymersley Park (HU5 5LJ).
The runners will be raising funds for Kids while getting showered in colour. For those who do not fancy getting messy, there will be bouncy castles, stalls, and family fun around the park – something to entertain everyone.
Anyone who would like to join in the Colour Run can email nomoremehhs@hotmail.com. There is also a JustGiving appeal page where supporters can help through donations.
Becky said: “This is so much more than fundraising for the girls. It’s about ensuring every child has the chance to feel included, supported, and celebrated.
“The girls’ drive and passion come directly from the life-changing impact this charity has had on them, and all of us parents couldn’t be prouder of the difference they’re making. They want to share their inspiring views and support inclusion and diversity a cross the community by bringing people together.”

Macie said: “My friends and I are organising a Colour Run to raise money for children with disabilities, as part of our Lifestyle project. Kids is a cause very close to our hearts, and we’re really excited to do something positive for the community.
“We believe it will be a colourful, energetic, and inspiring day. We’d love to encourage more people to come along and support us.”
On Thursday, August 28, the No more Mehhs will be hosting a community family fun day, with information and entertainment on offer. It will take place from 3pm to 6pm and again at Springhead and Derringham Community Hub.
On top of planning and organising the Colour Run and more, No more Mehhs are working on another project close to their hearts. They are creating sensory support bags for children with sensory needs, so families can enjoy a trip to the cinema without fear of panic when support tools are left behind at home.
They have most of the items needed to create these and are now hopeful of donations of ear defenders and wobble cushions to finalise the project. “Their goal is to have these sensory support bags available to borrow in every cinema across the city by the end of summer,” Becky said.
