Dean Holden has spoken of his delight after being appointed Hull City’s assistant head coach. The 45-year-old recently served as assistant manager at Turkish team Adana Demirspor following a stint under Steven Gerrard at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.
Salford-born Holden boasts a wealth of experience, having held coaching roles at several clubs. He has also managed 89 matches across spells with Bristol City and Charlton Athletic. Holden also had spells as caretaker manager at Oldham Athletic and Stoke City.
“I am absolutely delighted to finally be here,” said the former Latics defender. “We were talking for a while; I had discussions with Sergej and the club were keen on my Championship experience.
“Sergej’s brought his own staff with him, so it was important to understand my role within the coaching structure to ensure we are aligned and can work together to make us successful.
“I came across Sergej last season in Türkiye and we are similar in the way we see the game and how we want to play and achieve results.
“My role will primarily be looking after the defensive side of the team, making sure we are compact, organised and solid behind the ball – something I pride myself on.
“I have learned a lot over the last 18 months from my experiences abroad and I am returning to England a much more rounded coach, to a division I know really well.”
Holden joins Marko Salatović, Marin Ivančić and Andjelo Roguljic as part of Sergej Jakirovic’s new-lookg backroom team. Goalkeeping coach Erbil Bozkurt remains part of the coaching staff along with club legend Andy Dawson.
City’s players reported back to Cottingham for the start of pre-season training yesterday. Head coach Jakirovic and his staff are running the rule over free agent Jonjo Shelvey, who is currently training with the squad.
