Former Hull City boss Shota Arveladze has landed a new role almost three years on from his Hull City exit, taking charge of Turkish Super Lig outfit Kasimpasa.
It’s the second time in his long managerial career that the popular Georgian has taken over the Istanbul-based club, having spent three years there between 2012 and 2015.
Kasimpasa finished 10th in the Super Lig last term and sacked Burak Yılmaz on Sunday, bringing in Arveladze and then hailing his homecoming more than a year on from his exit at Karagumruk.
“Shota Arveladze, who served as our club’s technical director between 2012-2015, is back at the helm of Kasımpaşa,” the club said in a statement.
“After the successful times we have had together in the past, we are happy to work with him in the new season. We welcome Shota Arveladze home and wish him success in his duties.”
Arveladze endured a short spell at City, arriving in the aftermath of Acun Ilıcalı’s takeover in January 2022 after replacing Grant McCann at the helm. And though he was a popular figure on the terraces, he lasted just 246 days. He won his first game in charge against Swansea City in late January but was sacked after a calamitous 3-0 defeat away to the Swans in late September.
Pedro Martins was in line to replace Arveladze, but that move collapsed with Andy Dawson placed in caretaker charge prior to Liam Rosenior’s appointment.
Elsewhere, two more vacant jobs in the Championship have been filled ahead of fixtures release day on Thursday. Middlesbrough have appointed former Luton Town manager Rob Edwards to replace Michael Carrick, while QPR have finally confirmed Marti Cifuentes’ exit by mutual consent, bringing in Frenchman Julien Stephan.
Cifuentes had been placed on gardening leave in the final week of the Championship season amid links to the vacant job at West Brom.
Financially troubled Leicester City, meanwhile, are reportedly set to sack Ruud van Nistelrooy but not until the start of next month, in a bid to avoid having the cost of his departure on their accounts and instead, on the next set of accounts. Ex-Everton boss Sean Dyche has been linked with taking over. Russell Martin is thought to have turned the job down, in favour of taking over at Rangers.
