Hull City will hope to make a breakthrough in their quest to sign striker Oliver McBurnie this week, with the forward set to hold talks with Sergej Jakirovic.
City have been in discussions with the Scotland international striker since his departure from Las Palmas, after the 29-year-old opted against remaining in Spain following their relegation from La Liga.
Those talks have been positive so far, with a belief that McBurnie favours a move to the MKM Stadium ahead of former club Swansea City, while a return to Sheffield United is also a possibility, if Chris Wilder remains in charge. Any return to Bramall Lane 12 months on from his departure is deemed almost impossible if Wilder loses his job.
Now that the Tigers have appointed Jakirovic, the Bosnian head coach is expected to meet the striker later this week to discuss a permanent move to the MKM Stadium in the hope of getting a deal wrapped up quickly.
McBurnie has emerged as one of the club’s top transfer targets this summer, and though he will be available on a free transfer after exercising an exit clause in his Canary Islands contract, his salary package is still expected to be a significant financial commitment for the Tigers.
It’s understood both parties have broadly agreed on a financial package, and now McBurnie’s decision will be down to where he wants to play his football next season, with Jakirovic to play a key role..
