Mick Harrison has sadly passed away.

Former Hull FC forward and Hall of Fame member Mick Harrison has passed away, aged 79. The front rower is largely regarded as one of the greatest prop forwards to play for the club, making 321 appearances in the Black and White in two spells between 1965 and 1974, and 1982 and 1983.

Harrison also played for both England and Great Britain, making his debut for the latter at just 20-years-old in 1967. He was born in West Yorkshire but grew up in Hull.

The prop was picked up by Hull FC after playing for Fish Trades Boys’ Club, playing in the back-row in his first season before moving to prop. He then won honours with the club in 1969 as the Airlie Birds defeated Featherstone to win the 1969 Yorkshire Cup – a side coached by Johnny Whiteley.

Harrison then joined Yorkshire rivals Leeds in 1974 for a club record fee at the time of £10,000. He went on to make 215 appearances for Leeds over eight seasons.

During his time in West Yorkshire, Harrison added multiple honours to his collection including Challenge Cup Final victories over Widnes and St Helens in 1977 and 1978 at Wembley Stadium, and in Yorkshire Cup Final wins in 1975, 1980, and 1981, and the Premiership in 1979.

Harrison returned to Hull for a spell during the 1982-83 season – the club’s last Championship-winning campaign. He lined up against the Australian touring team at the Boulevard in November 1982.

The club posted in a statement: “Hull FC are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hall of Fame member Mick Harrison. The thoughts and condolences of everyone at the club are with Mick’s family and friends at this sad time.”
