Willie Peters hits back at fatigue claims as Hull KR gear up for their semi-final showdown.
Willie Peters insists his Hull KR side will be “ready to go” after a well-deserved weekend off, as they target a return to Old Trafford in pursuit of a historic treble.
The Robins faced criticism for showing signs of fatigue during the closing stages of the regular season, leaving it late to clinch the League Leaders’ Shield after defeats to Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity.
However, their victory over Warrington Wolves in the final round sealed a second title of the year – following June’s Challenge Cup triumph at Wembley – with eyes now firmly fixed on the ultimate prize and achieving a long-term pre-season goal.
Head coach Peters is confident his refreshed squad will have the edge heading into the Super League semi-finals – flipping the pressure onto their play-off rivals.
St Helens’ dramatic win over Leeds confirmed their trip to Sewell Group Craven Park on Saturday, while Wigan Warriors host Leigh Leopards on Friday night.
“They [teams involved in eliminator play-offs] should be more tired than us – we should be humming and ready to go,” Peters said.
“So the point is we don’t let others dictate us as we’re an honest group that knows where we’re at, and we’re in a really good spot.
“We can’t underestimate the importance of the week off. We certainly needed it, there’s no doubt in the world.
“We didn’t need a break six or seven weeks ago, but the players knew a week off was coming and the players could think about that.
“But we needed one to reset and go again. Look at the last two years, the two teams that had the week off made the Grand Final.
“It can be an advantage if you take advantage in the right way. As soon as that kick-off comes, we’ll be humming and ready to go.”
