Hull City news from HullLive as the Tigers’ midfielder discusses his deadline day transfer

Amir Hadziahmetovic has revealed he spoke to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about Hull City‘s approach.

The 28-year-old, who completed a deadline day switch from Besiktas and will spend the 2025/26 campaign with the Tigers.

After being made to wait to complete the transfer he made his debut against Swansea City, before playing for an hour in the 3-1 victory over Southampton.

That ended a month-long spell without a game, a period that started with Solskjaer in charge at Besiktas – and in the 2-2 draw with the Swans.

The Bosnia international told HullLive about his communication with his former boss.

“When I told him about my offer, he was really optimistic. He said it will be very good for me.

He said to me it will improve me a lot, the intensity here, the fight and everything. He was very positive about everything.”

Solskjaer’s positivity about his time at Besiktas might have waned when he was sacked on August 28 – just hours after they had been knocked out of the Conference League by Lausanne.

Indeed the Turkish outfit had started the summer in the Europa League only to be eliminted down to the lower competition by Shakhtar Donetsk.

The midfielder admits he was not surprised.

“I can say no because [he] had a lot of ups and a lot of ups and downs and in teams like Besiktas, it’s a big team, the fans they want to win every game.

“So I was expecting it. After that game they sacked him, so that’s probably one of the biggest reasons that they sacked him, financially they needed the money so they were looking for some other coaches.”

Solskjaer had led Besiktas to fourth after joining them in January, while Hadziahmetovic has another two seasons left on his deal. He has played 57 times for them since moving from Konyaspor in 2023.
