Plans also include new Pizza Express signage on Burton House

Proposals to replace combustible cladding on an apartment building in Hull city centre are among planning applications currently under consideration by Hull City Council. New non-combustible materials would replace the existing cladding.

The applications also include plans for new Pizza Express signage on Burton House. The popular pizzeria seems set to move into the newly renovated building at the top of Whitefriargate.

Combustible Cladding

Hull City Council has received an application for a section of cladding on 12 Spring Street to be replaced. Plans state “the area of concern relates to the Urban 1 development plant room” which sits on the Hall Street wing of the building.

Documents show how the combustible materials that are to be removed are within elevation facing the car park in the courtyard area within the building. Illustrations show the combustible material is on three storeys of the building.

Pizza Express signage

The council has also received an application for ‘Pizza Express’ signage to be put in place on Hull’s Burton House. The popular high street pizzeria recently submitted a licensing application to Hull City Council expressing their intention to open a restaurant in the newly renovated Grade-II listed building.

At the time of the licensing application being submitted, Pizza Express told the Hull Daily Mail that they “regularly review” their restaurant locations but did not specifically comment on any plans for Burton House. Neither did they provide any clarity on what the proposed restaurant would mean for their existing site in Princes Quay.

Following the submission of the licensing application, plans have now been submitted for ‘Pizza Express’ signage to be erected on the ground floor of the iconic building. The plans explain how the lettering would have “gold and black detailing,” therefore fitting in with the wider appearance of the building.

Change of use of Bransholme pub

The council has also received a planning application for the change of use of the Skippers Tavern in Bransholme. The application seeks permission to turn the pub into retail space.

The plans do not state the sort of retail business that would likely move into the unit, however pre-application feedback on the plans concludes that the application will “likely to be supported. This is because the proposals “would accord with the Local Plan,” the advice states.
