The Tigers host Southampton in their first home outing since late August
Sergej Jakirovic is determined to see his Hull City side deliver a vastly improved home performance when they face Southampton on Saturday, compared to their last, almost a month ago.
Last time out at the MKM Stadium on August 23, rocked by a sweeping illness throughout the camp and growing transfer window uncertainty, City were thumped 3-0 by a clinical Blackburn Rovers outfit.
That result punctured the early-season optimism that had been generated after a battling goalless draw at Coventry City and deserved home success over Oxford United.
Since then, Jakirovic’s side were beaten 4-2 in a chaotic game at Bristol City before the international break, but responded with a deserved point in a 2-2 draw at Swansea City on Saturday, courtesy of John Egan’s 97th-minute volley.
The Croatian now wants his side to make it up to those supporters who watched their side capitulate against a Rovers side who hadn’t won a game before they were handed victory on a silver platter back in late summer.
Will Still’s Saints will arguably provide their toughest test yet, but are still finding their feet in the Championship under their new manager, following another dismal relegation from the Premier League last term.
“For me, every game in this league is huge because our schedule is not so easy. Every opponent is very difficult, very, very tough,” the Croatian told Hull Live.
“We will try to prepare good, and especially after Blackburn, I think that we owe our fans a better performance at home, so we will try with our fans to take three points against Southampton.”
