Enis Destan stepped up his bid to earn a first team start by playing 45 minutes for Hull City ’s Under-21s on Tuesday afternoon against Charlton Athletic. The 23-year-old Turkish international, who made his City debut off the bench in the 2-2 draw at Swansea City at the weekend, started the game which the young Tigers lost 4-2 despite leading, as they suffered their first league loss of the campaign. Zane Myers and Pharrell Brown both scored fine goals in each half, Myers to give the hosts the lead, but City were undone by a flurry of defensive errors which allowed the Addicks to come from behind and secure a deserved victory. The Tigers disappointing display was compounded in injury time when Noah Wadsworth was shown a straight red card for a late challenge. Destan looked bright wearing the number nine shirt, winning a couple of important flick-ons, though the young Tigers struggled to create meaningful goal scoring chances for the forward. In what turned into a scrappy, tetchy affair at Bishop Burton, Destan was booked for a foul before the break, and then was replaced at the interval after his planned 45 minute display. The summer signing came through the game with no obvious issues and will expect to be on the bench this weekend when City host Southampton at the MKM Stadium looking for a first Championship win in four attempts. Cathal McCarthy, meanwhile, fresh from international duty with the Republic of Ireland played the full 90 minutes in the heart of Conor Sellars’ back four.
