Hull City rescued a dramatic point in South Wales as John Egan thrashed in the equaliser in the 97th minute to earn a deserved 2-2 draw against Swansea City.

City were a goal behind in a lifeless contest five minutes before the break when Zan Vipotnik fired in a good finish, but the Tigers responded within five minutes.

Ryan Giles’ pinpoint cross was met at the near post by former Swans star Oli McBurnie to clip over goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, but their poor defending saw them concede a desperate second when Ronald turned in unmarked.

Egan popped up to turn home the equaliser after Regan Slater’s effort was blocked, and it was a point they were full value for.

Here’s how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players in South Wales on Saturday afternoon….

Ivor Pandur: Nothing much to do in the first half and had absolutely no chance with Swansea’s opener. 6/10

Ryan Giles: Found it tough going defensively in the first period, but delivered a superb cross for McBurnie’s goal. Really good going forward. 6/10

Charlie Hughes: Important tackle in the opening exchanges after Akintola’s pocket was picked. Will be unhappy about being spun by Vipotnik for the opener, and lost his bearings for the second goal. Booked late on. 5/10

John Egan: A couple of vital early headers under pressure. A much better display from the experienced Irishman. Came close to equalising before he did in the 97th minute. 8/10

Lewie Coyle: A first start of the season for the skipper and took a while for him to get into it. Put in a superb cross for Gelhardt early in the second half. Kept on coming forward late on. 7/10

Amir Hadziahmetovic: His City debut after arriving on deadline day and struggled ot get to up to speed with the pace of the game, as you’d expect. Showed some nice touches when he got on the ball, especially his ball out to Giles for the equaliser. Replaced just after the hour. 6/10

John Lundstram: Battled hard early on and was better than Ashton Gate, but lost his man in the build-up to the second goal. Will be furious with that. 5/10

David Akintola: A couple of promising moments going forward but struggled going the other way, especially in the build-up to the opener. Not really in the game. 5/10

Joe Gelhardt: Couldn’t really get in the game in the first period. Denied by a stunning save from the goalkeeper at the start of the second half. 6/10

Kyle Joseph: Rewarded for his goal at Ashton Gate with a start against his former club, and worked a shift in the first half with little reward. Needed to be more aware inside his own box for the Ronald goal. 5/10

Oli McBurnie: Looked a menace in a quiet first half and delivered a crucial blow with a clever finish against his old club. 7/10

Subs:

Mohamed Belloumi (for Akintola 63): Teasing cross from a free-kick almost fashioned a chance, and was so close to an equaliser but was denied at the near post. Made things happen. 7/10

Regan Slater (for Hadziahmetovic 63): His shot in stoppage time was deflected into the path of Egan to score. 6/10

Joel Ndala (for Gelhardt 76): Really lively cameo display off the bench and played his part in City getting something from it. 6/10

Darko Gyabi (for Lundstram 84): Good to get him on for his debut and made a vital clearance after Egan made it 2-2. 6/10

Enis Destan (for Joseph 84): Had an instant chance with a header from Giles’ cross, and looked lively for his first appearance. 6/10
