Some gusty conditions are expected later in the weekend and into Monday with more heavy showers forecast too
After a long, mostly dry summer it has felt very different over recent days with a noticeable dip in temperatures and regular heavy downpours. It is set to become even more autumnal soon too with a weather warning issued for strong winds as the unsettled conditions continue in East Yorkshire.
The Met Office says “most of England and all of Wales” will be affected by the blustery conditions from Sunday evening through to late afternoon on Monday. The yellow-level warning, which will be in effect from 8pm on Sunday until 6pm on Monday, suggests “strong and gusty winds are likely to cause some disruption to travel and interruptions to power”.
The warning states: “Strong west or southwesterly winds will arrive across coastal areas of southwest England and Wales during Sunday evening, then develop more widely inland during Monday morning. Gusts of 45-55mph are expected widely inland, with gusts of 60-70mph possible at times along exposed coasts and hills.
“Winds will only slowly ease from the west later in the afternoon and into Monday evening.”
The forecaster says the conditions could lead to “some delays” to road, rail, air and ferry transport with exposed routes and bridges likely to be affected. A short-term loss of power and other services is also possible.
Before then, the weekend is set to see a continuation of the recent weather patterns with sunny spells and scattered blustery showers in places, some of which could be heavy and thundery.
“It will be breezy on Saturday with temperatures slightly below average for the time of year in some places, peaking at 16-18C, before a fairly chilly night with lows dipping into single figures in some rural parts of the region.
Sunday will start brightly with plenty of sunshine before cloud rolls in during the afternoon with outbreaks of heavy rain later on as it becomes windier into the evening. Temperatures will again peak around the mid-teens but feeling cooler in the breeze.
