The council expects work to begin in January with some ‘minor revisions’ made to the plans

Work could start in January on two roundabout improvement schemes in the Kingswood area. Hull City Council is seeking a contractor to deliver the projects at Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Wawne Road/Bude Road as part of the Kingswood Area Action Plan.

The authority is aiming for an appointment to be made in November with the intention of work starting on site early in 2026. The schemes are set to provide additional road space for vehicles and “prepare the area for the future and any new development”.

They will also improve cycle and pedestrian facilities, including new signalised crossing points, while there is set to be “management of trees” in the area too, some of which are proposed to be taken up and replanted. The council says that “where this cannot be accommodated, twice as many replacement trees will be planted to improve the local landscape”.

The authority sought feedback from local residents on the plans during the summer and, following this, minor revisions have been made.

They include modification to advance lane direction signs for drivers and an increase to the width of the new cycleway link between the Ennerdale Leisure Centre roundabout and Littondale.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Following the engagement work we did over the summer, we have listened to what residents and other stakeholders have said and we have now prepared a scheme that meets the needs of all members of the travelling public, which they can use safely and securely whatever form of transport they choose.

“With traffic levels and the population expected to grow in the coming years, these roundabout schemes are part of a proactive and planned approach by the council to futureproof our city’s infrastructure. We have already completed works to the Wawne Road / Kesteven Way roundabout to provide additional highway capacity as well as improve walking and cycling routes and we will now do the same at the Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Wawne Road / Bude Road roundabouts.”
