The 23-year-old has not yet kicked a ball in anger for the Tigers since joining on a permanent contract from Trabzonspor
John Lundstram has backed Enis Destan to be a success in English football after making the move from the Turkish Super Lig to the English Championship with Hull City.
Destan could make his debut at Swansea City this weekend, as the Tigers look to return to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats against Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City.
The 23-year-old joined the Tigers earlier this summer but has been sidelined with a knee injury and has been unable to get on the pitch in the opening month of the season.
After missing out on the opening four league games, Destan returned to training during the international break and is expected to be in the squad that travels to South Wales on Friday afternoon, ready to tackle the Swans.
Lundstram, who played with Destan at Trabzonspor, believes the forward can have a positive impact at City once he gets to grips with the change in pace in English football.
“I think he’ll suit the English leagues so much. He’s aggressive, a really aggressive boy, he’s a very honest boy,” Lundstram told Hull Live. “He’s a target man type of player, but not a big target man. He can run also. Unbelievable in the air, he’s good at hold-up play, he’s clever, so I think he’ll really suit the English leagues. I think when the fans get to see him, they’ll like his honesty and his work rate and what he’s all about is he really puts himself about.”
Former Super Lig winners Trabzonspor endured a poor season, finishing down in seventh place and well out of the lucrative European places. Lundstram says it wasn’t necessarily personal against Destan because the whole squad came in for heavy criticism, but he believes the forward can be a success under Jakirovic.
“I think so (he can flourish under the City boss),” he said. “It’s hard because obviously, the team didn’t do well last year at Trabzonspor. I think we finished seventh. We were expected to challenge for the league, and we never did, so of course it wasn’t good enough, but I don’t think individual performances were as bad as what people say.
“Enis gives his all every week and in every training session, and to be honest, all of us got slated last year at Trabzonspor, so it’s nothing new for Enis, myself or any other player.
“I think the 25-man squad at Trabzonspor got slated last year because we didn’t perform well enough to challenge for the league, and that’s how it is.”
