A community running event is returning to Bridlington beach.

Trophies will be awarded for male and female competitors who finish first in a 1km (0.6-mile) fun run and a 5km (3.1-mile) race.

Councillor Nick Coultish said the event promoted “health, wellbeing and community spirit”.

The races will be staged on the south beach on 14 September, beginning at 11:00 BST.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which is organising the event, said the course would begin near the lifeboat slipway and finish in front of Richie’s cafĂ©.

Spectators will be able to watch from the beach or promenade.

Coultish, the council’s cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said he was excited to announce the return of the event, which he said was “set against the stunning backdrop of Bridlington’s coastline”.

”Whether you’re a seasoned runner or simply looking to enjoy a fun day out by the sea, we invite everyone to take part, cheer on the participants and celebrate fitness and togetherness,” he added.

Registration is open for people who would like to take part.
