The lifeboat rescue service sprung into action to come to the aid of a lost dog

A distressed dog owner sought the help of Humber Rescue after their black Labrador went missing yesterday morning (Monday). Red, the name of the prized pooch, had gone missing near Faxfleet earlier in the day and the frantic owner emailed the Humber Rescue charity for assistance.
Once the heartfelt message was received, the charity advised the man to notify the Coastguard who then coordinated efforts with Humber Rescue. A crew of four volunteers sprung into action and launched swiftly to the area where the dog was last seen.
Upon arrival, the team spoke with the owner and deployed a drone to aid in the search of Red. Another Humber Rescue crew member made their way to the area around Faxfleet to help with the search from land. The strategy soon paid off as the team spotted Red deep in the thick reeds along the riverbank.
A crew member was put ashore and made their way to the dog’s location. With the owner helping the team, Red was safely reunited with him and brought aboard the lifeboat after the five-hour ordeal.
The pair were then transported to Blacktoft where they were met by the shore-based member. Humber Rescue confirmed that Red was unharmed and the owner was back in good spirits after having a very distressing morning.
Tom Collins, one of the crew members who responded to the callout and a dog owner himself, said: “This was a great outcome and we’re really thankful we were able to assist. As a fellow dog owner, I’ve got a red fox Labrador myself, I know how worrying a situation like this can be. We’re pleased to say both owner and dog are now safely back home.”
Humber Rescue is a UK independent lifeboat charity protecting over 525 square kilometres of water across East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire.
