The City man’s move to Spain had plenty of twists and turns before coming to a happy conclusion
It’s been a whirlwind week for Abu Kamara, who has been holed up in a Madrid hotel waiting to find out if his move to La Liga side Getafe would get completed, and now, he can finally relax.
The Hull City winger’s on-off move to the Spanish capital was eventually given the green light on Monday afternoon, just as it looked like it might collapse in yet more summer deadline day drama.
Kamara had been at the Estadio Coliseum on Friday to sign terms over his loan move – with an option to buy – only to be told the deal could not be completed because of Getafe’s transfer issues with the Spanish FA. After arriving back at the stadium on Friday night while the team were playing away in Valencia, he penned his contract, thinking that was that, but no.
Meanwhile, back in England, Amir Hadziahmetovic’s switch from Besiktas to City had been held up because of the delays over in Spain, meaning he could not be involved at Bristol City on Saturday as was originally planned.
Despite training with his new teammates, coupled with his wait for a visa from the UK government, the Bosnian headed back to Istanbul over the weekend to collect some things before coming back to England.
That move was thrown into fresh doubt on Modnay morning when it became clear the Spanish FA had blocked Kamara’s registration and then Swansea City, who had been sitting quietly in the long grass, were ready to step up in and offer Kamara a way out of City on deadline day.
It could have been from Madrid to the Mumbles in one afternoon for the 21-year-old who joined City in a similarly dramatic fashion on deadline day last summer, but thankfully for the winger, Christantus Uche’s move to Crystal Palace enabled it to go through.
Kamara’s move being ratified meant that Hadziahmetovic’s arrival at the MKM Stadium could also be ratified, and a collective big sigh of relief was felt from East Yorkshire to central Spain.
The ex-Norwich City youngster will now get to spend the season playing against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga, and though boss Sergej Jakirovic did not want to let him go, the opportunity to play at that level was too good to turn down for Kamara and he will be aiming to do enough to see his move made permanent in the summer.
