Hull City want to sign midfielder Darko Gyabi from Yorkshire rivals Leeds United ahead of Monday’s 7pm transfer deadline in a bid to bolster their engine room.

The 21-year-old Londoner has not played for the Whites and does not feature in Daniel Farke’s plans this season as they look to secure their Premier League status, and the Elland Road club are open to a move.

City want to sign the midfielder, who can play anywhere across the middle of the park on loan for the rest of the season, and believe he can provide welcome competition.

While the Tigers are keen to sign the England Under-21 international, they cannot do so until they move a player out because of the situation they find themselves in.

It’s under there is potential interest in one of their existiting midfielders but at this stage, it remains unclear if that tentative enquiry will manafgest into an actual bid, and move, which would then allow City to bring in somebody.

City’s struggles in the middle of the park came into sharp focus again on Saturday as they were swept aside by Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Without the injured Matt Crooks, and new arrival Amir Hadziahmetovic not yet signed, boss Sergej Jakirovic remains keen to add more numbers to his ranks in that area of the pitch.

Gyabi spent last season loan in the Championship with Plymouth Argyle, and notched up 48 appearances in all competitions with 43 of those in the second tier having spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Home Park before a groin problem curtialed his campaign.
