The pair meet with the Tigers looking for a rare success on the red side of Bristol
Bristol City boss Gerhard Struber is taking nothing for granted as he looks for a first home win of the season when Hull City come to Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers have a wretched record at the home of the Robins, with only one league win in their last 27 outings on the Avon, and will be aiming to set the record straight after a disappointing home loss to Blackburn Rovers a week ago.
City will arrive at Ashton Gate feeling a little better about themselves after numerous players including Charlie Hughes recovered from a sickness bug which ripped through the camp in the days leading up to the visit of Rovers.
Struber’s side, meanwhile, have drawn their last two after cruising to a 4-1 win at Ruben Selles’ Sheffield United on the opening weekend, and were beaten at Fulham in midweek as they exited the Carabao Cup at the second round stage.
“I think it’s also a tough, tough task,” the Austrian said. “We know how direct they play, how they build up, how big is the transition but also from them, they have some very interesting signings. They have, I would say a high dynamic, especially in the wide areas.”
Struber, who has managed previously in England with Barnsley, highlighted summer arrival Oli McBurnie as one of Sergej Jakriovic’s key weapons in the top third of the pitch.
“McBurnie is a striker with Premier League experience and a striker with very good lay-offs,” he explained. “He’s very dangerous to score a goal. In more directions, I think it’s a tough task.
“But I like challenges like that. We have to look at ourselves much more and make sure that we are very aggressive with outstanding good energy, and then with the tactical and technical tools that we need, I think we should do it.”
The Robins’ head coach will be without new signing Josh Stokes after he broke a metatarsal early on at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night. Stokes is facing a couple of months out injured, but the hosts have a clean bill of health elsewhere.
