On social media, Humberside Police said residents will be updated “as soon as it safe to return to the safe” through its channels and “officers remain in the area”.

A spokesperson said: “Road closures are currently in place on Watts Road, Beverley following reports of suspected explosive materials being found in a property today (Friday, August 29).

“A precautionary 100m cordon is in place, residents have been evacuated to a safe place and officers remain in attendance whilst an assessment is carried out.
