The Lancashire outfit ended their three-game losing run with a deserved victory in East Yorkshire
Blackburn Rovers head coach Valerian Ismael hailed his side’s 3-0 victory at Hull City as their best away display since he arrived at the club in late February.
Goals from Ryan Hedges, Yuki Ohashi and Todd Cantwell sealed a convincing victory for Rovers as they picked up their first points of the season, while inflicting a first defeat on City.
Though the hosts were ravaged by injury and a sickness bug which ripped through the camp during the week, Rovers were slick and took full advantage against a lacklustre Tigers outfit.
“When you win the first game, it’s really good because you start your Championship season,” the Frenchman said. “We’ve had a difficult couple of weeks behind us, but (there was) a reason for that. It was hectic and chaotic within.
“Congratulations to the boys to react like that after the result last week, it was a big disappointment to lose the game (against Birmingham last weekend)
“We took the positivity from last week because the performance against Birmingham was strong as well. But today, I think that we did it perfectly,
“The first 15 minutes, for sure, you have to be strong. They’ve got some good chances because we lost the ball (and) give the momentum to them, but we stood strong, and after that, we scored a lovely goal and then in the second half, we came out and scored two goals straight away, and it gave us the confidence to control the game.”
Ismael says he pinpointed weaknesses in the Tigers defence and was pleased with how his players exploited those, while at the other end, his defence marshalled by ex-City man Sean McLoughlin were rarely troubled after the opening 20 minutes.
“It was, since I’ve been at the club, the best away performance we have had. It’s exactly what we wanted. We knew how we can hit Hull City and the boys did it perfectly. I think we should have scored more goals at the end, but three goals away, clean sheet, what more do you want? It was a very solid performance.”
