The foodie wanted to try the ‘best fish and chips in England’, and she was impressed by her meal
A woman has praised Yorkshire after travelling for five hours to try the ‘best fish and chips in England.’ American blogger @kidsmealprincess often tests food and drink recommendations shared by followers. In a recent TikTok series, Sarah went searching for the best fish and chips in England.
For her first video, the foodie travelled to Bournemouth to try the English version of the classic dish. For the taste test, she visited a Harry Ramsden’s restaurant, and Sarah loved her visit to the seaside chippy.
In her Bournemouth video, Sarah told followers: “I’m an American who travelled five hours to go to Bournemouth to try their fish and chips. Let’s see how they compare to Orange County. I got a large cod with regular chips, gravy, mushy peas, and curry sauce.”
Rating her meal, she praised: “This tastes nothing like California fish and chips, so this is fantastic. I’m giving Harry Ramsden a 10 out of 10. This is phenomenal.” However, viewers wanted her to try a different location.
For example, one commenter said: “Whitby is the best place for fish and chips.” Sarah followed the recommendation for her second video, travelling to North Yorkshire to try Trenchers, a traditional fish and chips restaurant in Whitby.
She explained: “I’m an American who traveled five hours to go to Whitby to try the best fish and chips in England. I was told the North are better than the South, so let’s see. I was told to try haddock instead of cod, and he told me the difference is that haddock has skin and cod doesn’t.”
Sarah also tried tartar sauce, pickled gherkins, pickled onions, and a dandelion and burdock drink. Rating her food, Sarah said: “I feel like this is gonna be controversial, but I feel like cod is more posh than haddock because haddock has the skin on it, and I feel like when you take the skin off it’s just more posh, but I will say haddock wins. Whitby wins. The North wins.”
Her post attracted lots of attention with thousands of likes and comments. One viewer replied: “Whitby is a beautiful place, best place to go for fish and chips.” Another echoed: “Whitby is my favourite place for fish and chips! Glad you enjoyed it.”
A foodie agreed: “Whitby is lush,” and a fan added: “Yeahhhhh, love Whitby! Northern chippies are elite.” Someone shared: “Whitby lovely place lovely fish and chips scampi beautiful.”
There was also lots of praise for the restaurant. A fan wrote: “Trenchers all the way.” Another commented: “Trenchers is a solid solid choice, my grandmothers favourite.”
Many also shared their own recommendations, suggesting other locations Sarah could try. One such reply read: “Scarborough is the best place.” A second claimed: “Scotland is better.” A third added: “Whitby the best in England but you have to go to Scotland for the best in the UK.” The blogger replied: “I’ve been to a few places in Scotland but I’ve never tried the fish and chips!”
