The former Red Devils star has signed a permanent contract with the Tigers
Hull City have completed the signing of former Manchester United defender Brandon Williams after the 24-year-old impressed on trial at the club.
Williams has agreed an initial one-year contract at the MKM Stadium, with the option of a second, as he looks to get his career back on track after a turbulent few years.
The full-back played in friendly games against Sunderland and La Liga side Getafe and has impressed boss Sergej Jakirovic, who has been keen to give him a second chance. The club hope to have Williams in the squad to face Oxford United at the MKM Stadium on Sunday.
City are prepared to be patient with Williams over his fitness, given his last competitive fixture came for former club Ipswich Town back in December 2023. But with Ryan Giles and Cody Drameh both in terrific form and skipper Lewie Coyle closing in on a return to fitness, the Tigers can afford to take their time and make sure he’s in a good place.
Since breaking through at Old Trafford, Williams has appeared 47 times in the Premier League, as well as clocking up 12 appearances in the Europa League a couple in the Champions League. In the Championship, he played 15 times and scored twice with the Tractor Boys.
Back in May, Williams was slapped with a suspended 14-month jail term, suspended for two years, after a near-100mph crash in Cheshire, given a three-year driving ban and will complete 180 hours of community service.
Williams was also released by the Old Trafford club and has struggled to find a way back into football, but was given an olive branch by Jakirovic, who feels the defender should be given a second chance.
“I like to help people because everyone deserves a second chance in life, the Bosnian told Hull Live. “I spoke with him very honestly, and I explained to him what I expect from him. We will be very careful, very, very slow. We have time, so we will try to help him.
“I think the quality is there because he was on a high level at Man United, so his quality is there. We need him to bring good fitness, and then we will make a decision. For me, his mentality is good. From our conversations, he’s a very normal guy.”
