The WISHH Baby Loss appeal has reached £60,000 with plans for enhanced quiet rooms, a refurbished bereavement suite and improvements to entrance of early pregnancy unit
The WISHH Baby Loss appeal has reached £60,000, the charity has announced. The target is to raise £100,000 to enhance the bereavement facilities across Hull Women and Children’s Hospital.
The appeal will help the WISHH charity to enhance six quiet rooms with the Women and Children’s Hospital and improve the entrance and exit to the early pregnancy unit. It will also allow for the refurbishment of the bereavement suite, which will enable families to make precious memories with their baby.
One man who has helped to raise funds for the cause is Adam Haldenby, who took part in the Wolds Way Ultra 50km trial run, reaching 3,000ft elevation. After 20 weeks of training, Adam completed the race in five hours and 39 minutes, placing 33rd out of 200 runners.
Taking part in this challenge helped Adam focus on his physical and mental recovery following the tragic loss of two babies. Adam said: “In 2024, my wife, Nicole and I faced the heartbreak of losing two babies, each loss a separate, devastating moment. Both times, we sat in ultrasound rooms alongside expectant parents, surrounded by hope while we received shattering news.
“When our second daughter was born in December 2024, it was in the same ward as other new mothers. We could hear the cries of new-borns while coming to terms with our own loss. The contrast was almost unbearable, adding a layer of pain to an already traumatic experience.
“When I heard about the WISHH Charity’s appeal to give families going through difficult moments the space they need, I knew I had to support it by taking part a 50km trail run. So far, I have raised £1,000, and I’m planning more fundraising efforts throughout the year, and possibly a larger event in autumn or winter.
“This cause is deeply personal to Nicole and I. If you’re able to support or share the appeal, it would mean a great deal, not just to us, but to many others who may walk a similar path.”
Carl Wheatley, Chief Executive of the WISHH Charity said: “If you would like to get involved and support our Baby Loss Appeal, please feel free to get in touch with us. Every penny raised will make a real difference to families experiencing the heartbreak of Baby Loss, helping us enhance a dedicated and soundproofed and tranquil areas for families making a real change to those experiencing baby loss.”
