The Tigers felt that the 22-year-old striker would have been an exciting investment
Hull City’s hopes of signing striker Majita Frigan have come to an end with the Croatian international on the verge of joining Serie A side Parma.
Frigan was one of the club’s top summer targets following the arrival of head coach Sergej Jakirovic, who worked with the frontman in Croatia at Rijeka.
Jakirovic was keen to link up with the forward once again, while the Westerlo ace had spoken of his desire to join the MKM Stadium club this summer, but City’s transfer issues with the EFL have ensured it cannot happen, and he’s seemingly opted to move to Italy’s top league in a deal worth around 10m euros (around £8.6m).
The City boss wanted to add both Frigan and Oliver McBurnie to his ranks this summer, but it will be the Scotsman who will be the one charged with spearheading the Tigers’ attack this season, supported by Kyle Joseph and Joe Gelhardt.
Initially, it was thought the club could strike a loan deal, but that was deemed not possible and then any hope of the move being done hinged on the outcome of the appeal against their three-window ban on paying transfer fees which remains unknown.
More than a week since the four-hour hearing, City are yet to find out the outcome of that appeal. That said, Hull Live understands that even if the ban was now lifted, the finances of the deal would have made the move extremely difficult, given the conditions the Tigers are working under.
The club are subject to a business plan imposed on them by the EFL’s financial unit and they are almost at the maximum annual wage limit, while they are keen to remain within FFP limits and therefore avoid the potential penalties associated with breaching those rules.
