Glammed-up guests of Beverley Racecourse styled out one of the hottest Ladies’ Days in history.

No one let the baking rays and soaring temperatures get the better of their get-ups. The ladies kept their cool in everything from pale, floaty pastels to paintbox brights and the gents in many cases went for short-sleeved shirts and tailored shorts.

One racegoer who really did not let the heat get to her was Rachael Palmer, of Caistor, in northern Lincolnshire who was declared the winner of this year’s Most Stylish contest. Rachael was dressed in a summery yellow ensemble that included a flower-dotted dress, matching bag and shoes and flowers in her ears, that obviously caught the eyes of the judges.

She said she felt “over the moon”. “I did not think I’d be picked for today. I’m a maths teacher and I make fascinators for fun at night.

“I’m overjoyed.” Rachael went on to say how she had made everything herself, her mum helping with her dress “because she’s got a sewing machine”, and it had taken “a few months” to make.

“The hat is vintage – I actually got that from a charity shop – and I just customised everything. I thought, the weather’s lovely today in Beverley so I’ll dress like the sun.”

Rachael said her students at Lincoln Minster School would probably be “overjoyed and shocked, because at work I wear suits”. As the winner of one of the nine Yorkshire Ladies’ Days, Rachael will now go through to a big final with a chance to win a dream country getaway and more.

Across the Westwood course, racegoers in their thousands paraded their finery for all to see. The outfits ranged from short and strapless to long and floaty.

There were plenty of fascinators to be seen and some statement hats too. Can you spot yourself in the photographs taken by Hull Live’s Donna Clifford, below?
